A Joint Good Deed at ARENA, Yangon
AREA Press Release No. 446/2019: September 02, 2019

Dr.Sopon Pornchokchai, Ph.D. Dip.FIABCI, MRICS
President, Agency for Real Estate Affairs (AREA)

Amazingly, during our ASEAN Real Estate Network Alliance (ARENA) convention in Yangon on August 23 and 24, 2019, ARENA friends together donated a generous US$810 in a united effort toward assisting poorer students in Myanmar.

Dr Sopon Pornchokchai, President of the Thai Appraisal & Estate Agents Foundation (TAF) carried to the convention 400 copies of his new book, “International Real Estate Surveyed” priced at US$4 per copy. He gave these free of charge to friends in ARENA but humbly asked them to donate just one dollar towards the cause for helping less-privileged students in the host-country, Myanmar. The books were very quickly sold out!

In spite of there not being sufficient books for everyone to receive a copy, this outstanding sum of US$810 was realized. So effectively, approximately two dollars per copy of the book was raised!  As there were some 700 delegates at the convention, this indicated that some were even more liberal in their contributions to the cause and that about 60% of them funded the 810 dollars for the book. Among such more-than-generous people, Mr. Khin Maung Than, Chairman of Myanmar Real Estate Services Association (MRESA).

Damma Thara (https://bit.ly/2LokZdu), a Buddhist monk who devotes his efforts to helping students in Myanmar, came on August 24 to receive the donation from Mr. Than and Dr.Sopon.  Their willingness to donate displayed the wonderful spirit of our brothers and sisters in ARENA shared in this good deed for the less-privileged in Myanmar.  Thanks are due to all for this noble gesture.

In Buddhism it is believed that unselfish deeds like this create good karma for the givers, compensating positively for the greed, usually unconsciously but sometimes knowingly, exercised by us humans. So, for the unselfish ARENA brothers and sisters, this is surely good karma. I am overflowing with admiration!  May God bless you all for this noble deed.  May He pour out his blessings copiously upon you.

All the best to you.
