Opening Remarks by President Lily Chang, FIABCI-Taiwan

 

Our sincere gratitude is extended to Mr. Mark Chih-Wei Ho, Deputy Secretary-General to the President, for his esteemed attendance. Representing President Dr. Ching-Te Lai, his presence signifies a profound endorsement and invaluable encouragement for the Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards.

 

FIABCI World President Antonio Campagnoli, his wife Alisa, our new World Vice President Dr. Yu Kee Su and all the FIABCI family from the Asian region, who made a special trip to attend today’s awards ceremony. We’re delighted to acknowledge our esteemed Honorary Chairman and Chief Advisor Nan-Yuan Huang. A special thank you goes to Honorary Chairman and Convener Chang-Hsin Lin, along with Deputy Convener Ting-Fung Lin, and Chairman Yu-Shan Liu, all of whom have provided invaluable guidance over the years. We also sincerely appreciate the diligent efforts of our dedicated committee of judges.

 

Our deepest gratitude extends to Deputy Minister Dong of the Ministry of the Interior, Deputy Minister Chen of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Director-General Wu of the National Land Management Agency, and General Director Wang of the Architecture and Building Research Institute. We recognize the significant effort it took for them to be here today to present these prestigious awards.

 

We also extend a warm welcome to distinguished officials from local governments, area leaders in the architectural field, and chairpersons from our co-organizing units. And, of course, a huge welcome to today’s stars: the representatives from our award-winning teams!

 

Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome! We are delighted to welcome everyone assembled here today to jointly celebrate the 20th Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards. This prestigious event proudly signifies the highest honor bestowed upon Taiwan’s construction and development community. It has been a true honor to succeed Honorary Chairman Chang-Hsin Lin since 2020. My dedication lies in perpetuating the inspiring vision of our predecessors: to let the world experience the beauty and dynamic spirit of Taiwan. This year, at the 2025 World Prix d’Excellence in Nigeria, Taiwan truly shined, received two gold and three silver winners! Despite having attended numerous award ceremonies, hearing “The Winner is…Taiwan!” consistently evokes profound excitement. This is because we have, once again, successfully showcased Taiwan’s brilliance and capabilities on the global stage.

 

The Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards, founded in 2006 by our Honorary Chairman Sung-Chang Tang, has consistently pursued a singular mission: to elevate Taiwan’s architectural design and construction standards. Our aim is to enhance every aspect, from aesthetics and building techniques to management and, critically, our vision for sustainable living, all fostered through positive collaboration and knowledge sharing.

 

The Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards, founded in 2006 by our Honorary Chairman Sung-Chang Tang, has consistently pursued a singular mission: to elevate Taiwan’s architectural design and construction standards. Our aim is to enhance every aspect, from aesthetics and building techniques to management and, critically, our vision for sustainable living, all fostered through positive collaboration and knowledge sharing.

 

Over the past two decades, this award has proudly witnessed Taiwan’s incredible progress and transformation in the construction sector. We’ve seen advancements across the board—from architectural design, construction quality, and facility management to environmental regeneration, urban renewal, and even social and affordable housing. Starting with 80 entries, we proudly showcase over 250 entries today. This growth isn’t just in numbers; it’s a powerful testament to the vibrant development of Taiwan’s national construction efforts. Together, we’ve achieved a truly remarkable and fruitful new chapter. Every single project embodies our passion and contribution to this land, showcasing the excellence and glory of Taiwanese architecture!

 

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Honorary Chairman Nan-Yuan Huang. His transition this year to Chief Advisor of our judging committee marks a pivotal moment. His exceptional leadership has been instrumental in the awards’ continued growth, providing them with a profound institutional foundation and international acclaim. This elevates the Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards to the premier, globally connected honor in architecture, often dubbed “The Oscars of Architecture.” I also extend my deepest gratitude and utmost respect to Convener Chang-Hsin Lin, Deputy Convener Ting-Fung Lin, and all our esteemed judges. Over 90 days, our judges traveled more than 8,500 kilometers across Taiwan to personally assess the dedication behind over 200 entries. Your tireless efforts, professional insight, and unwavering commitment to envisioning the future are deeply appreciated. Your professionalism is truly inspiring!

 

Today, we extend our heartfelt to all award-winning teams. Your invaluable contributions have continually transformed Taiwan’s cities and rural landscapes, propelling them toward a more livable and sustainable future. Indeed, you have perfectly manifested the inspiring vision championed by UN-Habitat: “Better Cities, Better Lives.”

 

In recent years, the architectural industry has faced and will continue to confront significant challenges, particularly climate change, an aging demographic, the imperative for urban regeneration and the renewal of aging infrastructure, and the overarching global objective of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. I am confident that by upholding our convictions and tirelessly striving forward, architecture will transcend mere construction. It embodies a profound mission: to elevate lives, champion sustainability, and forge a cohesive society!

 

Finally, congratulations once more to all our award recipients!

 

Though this award is a moment of glory, the true legacy lies in realizing its value and embracing the profound responsibility it entails. This is a lifelong commitment.
